Boy (Band) Crazy
With the recent “The Package” tour with New Kids on the Block (NKOTB), Boyz II Men, and 98 Degrees, the popularity of the “boy band” (or “man band,” in this case) has not waned. Combining vocal harmonies, good looks, and lyrics about love, it’s easy to see the appeal of these groups.
Below is a selection of album titles from the library’s catalog featuring the bands mentioned above and others. Stick to songs by your favorite band or try listening to another group.

The newest CD from the band released this year.

Motown: A Journey through Hitsville USA
The group that sang “Motown Philly” applies their smooth vocal stylings to timeless classics like “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” “The Tracks of My Tears,” and “Easy.”

The follow-up to No Strings Attached (see below). The CD’s first track “Pop” in part discussed the public scrutiny that stars were put under by the media, and the theme of fame continued in the title song. Also includes the more R&B-like “Girlfriend.”
No Strings Attached
This album gave us “Bye Bye Bye” with its catchy chorus and the romantic ballads “This I Promise You” and “That’s When I’ll Stop Loving You.” Check out their talent at a capella harmonies on the track “I Thought She Knew.”

New Kids on the Block
The band’s newest album released earlier this year. Called “10” because it’s their 10th album, including “best of” CDs. Standout tracks include “We Own Tonight” and “Remix (I Like the).”

I’ll admit that I mostly know 98 Degrees for their song “True to Your Heart,” which they sang with Stevie Wonder on the Mulan soundtrack and the CD 98 Degrees and Rising. Highlights of this 2000 album Revelation are the harmonies on “Interlude” and the Spanish-tinged “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche).”
Coinciding with their 2013 tour with NKOTB and Boyz II Men, the group has also released a new album called 2.0.
Though perhaps not as successful or well-known as other boy bands of its time, O-Town qualifies to be on this list.
Take Me Home
Hear the debut album from the British boy band that formed on The X Factor and found international fame and success.
Up All Night
The group’s second album features the smash hit “What Makes You Beautiful” and another highlight, “One Thing.”
Jessica Chung is a MLIS student and an intern for San Mateo County Library. She preferred N’Sync over the Backstreet Boys but likes the recent New Kids on the Block/Backstreet Boys album NKOTBSB and NKOTB’s 10.
